So it was the first morning of our holiday / exploration of the stunning Kamberg Valley where we are soon moving. We will be opening Kamberg Valley Hideaway, which is going to be luxury, self catering accommodation in the peaceful and secluded setting of the 27-hectare smallholding we are in the process of buying. As well as the accommodation we will have fly-fishing on the property as well as one or two photography and birding hides.

We were staying across the Little Mooi River from Kamberg Valley Hideaway and we awoke at 5am. Looking at our watches, we decided it was far too early to get up, until we peeked through the curtains! It was then action stations!

The sunrise was in it's early stages and with the mottled cloud cover, no wind and a reddening sky, Bryan and I leapt out of bed, got dressed and dashed outside with our cameras. And thank goodness we did.

2016 is seeing my partner, Bryan and I are embarking on a new and exciting adventure!

I apologise for the cliché here, but Kamberg Valley in the Southern Drakensberg really is a hidden gem. The landscape is of beautiful grasslands, dotted with sparkling dams and a backdrop of the dramatic Drakensberg Mountains.

The peace and quiet of the area is something you will not find in many places these days and really is a joy to be experienced.

​When you wake in the mornings you hear the morning chorus of a multitude of different, colourful birds and at night when you switch off the lights, total darkness surrounds you, with the only light coming from the twinkling stars and the moon.

With all this natural beauty to bask in, it was an area that Bryan and I thought we wouldn't mind moving to.

Just before Christmas we saw a property for sale that looked stunning! We fell in love with it on the Internet so you can only imagine how we felt when we saw it surrounded by Kamberg Valley's beautiful landscape!

And now here we are, one month on and the sale is progressing. Soon our dream of owning a peace of paradise in the Drakensberg Mountains will be a reality and that's when the fun really begins…
